Flour

My first contact with flour was in 1982 when I tried to bake casts of my face. The baked casts were very expressive and I considered them useless. However, this experience was so intense that for nearly 20 years flour and related matters constitute basic substance I use. The meaning of 'flour' as a medium - substance has never been approached by me in a symbolic way. I isolate it from the symbolic environment, depriving it of layers of meaning and I look for a form in a new dimension.

Traces

A decision to express oneself through an ephemeral situation has its consequences. In this case flour acquires special significance as it fulfills visual and sensual functions. In most cases it is examined visually and manually, by means of touch, blowing, smell, taste, etc. The record of the ways of reception is a specific history of exhibitions, their real time and place.

Ephemeral nature

Flour, dough and water are the basic elements which I have always treated as a substance for creation, in a traditional approach of a painter, just like paints, brush, canvases.
